Senior Solicitor
Richard Young holds a first class LLB degree and an LLM. He qualified as a solicitor in 2007 and has pre-admission experience in immigration law and related judicial review work dating back to 2003. He has had successful conduct of litigation up to and including in the Supreme Court and has been solicitor with conduct of various other reported decisions in the Administrative Court and Court of Appeal.
Many of his higher court cases, in particular his judicial review work, have settled in favour of clients at an early stage. Equally he conducts First-tier and Upper Tribunal appeals with a high degree of success. His work has been commented upon favourably by members of the judiciary.
Richard Young acts for private individuals and businesses alike in all areas of personal and business immigration, including detention/deportation work and cases involving children; he particularly welcomes instructions in complex cases, including where applicants have been previously refused. His personal immigration experience includes applications for family visas, asylum, naturalisation and registration applications, EUISS applications and appeals, deportation, applications involving children and rights of contact, private life/long residence applications, domestic abuse applications, student and graduate applications, domestic worker applications and other areas. His business immigration experience includes challenging the imposition of civil penalties and advising on sponsor licensing, skilled worker visas and the global talent route.
Richard Young is a member of the Law Society’s immigration law policy committee and, in that role, lobbies the government behind the scenes on behalf of the profession, and the wider public, in relation to all areas of proposed changes to immigration law, policy and procedure.
In addition to immigration work, Richard young handles various areas of civil litigation work – particularly family law as this has an obvious overlap in some cases with the immigration system. In terms of family work, Richard Young accepts instructions in divorce, child arrangements orders, non-molestation orders and adoption cases. In terms of other fields of civil litigation, he deals with various types of disputes including appeals and litigation relating to school appeals and employer-employee disputes. In all such cases he recognizes and works constructively and efficiently to ensure the earliest possible resolution to disputes to minimize anxiety and expense to those that he represents.
Richard’s specialism include all aspects of the below areas:
- Business and Individual Immigration including Judicial Reviews, Sponsorship Licence, Skilled Worker Visa applications.
- Employment Law – Constructive/Unfair dismissal, Settlement agreements, Redundancy law and Contracts (including drafting, review and dispute resolution)
- Education Law – school admission appeals, school exclusion appeals, disputes with higher education institutions appeals and judicial reviews in relation to Education Law.
