The family home is the biggest asset for some Wimbledon couples, and the most emotional one. Pensions can be worth just as much, and they’re easy to overlook.
The divorce itself doesn’t split any of this. That takes a financial order. Without one, your ex could still make a claim against you years after the divorce.
If you and your partner agree, we draft a consent order for the court to approve (the court fee is £62). If you can’t agree, we’ll negotiate with your partner’s solicitor and, if needed, apply to court for a decision.
Our financial settlement solicitors handle both routes, and our divorce financial settlements guide explains how the court decides what’s fair. To see how your assets might be divided, try our divorce settlement calculator.
Every divorce in England and Wales starts with the same court fee. It’s currently £628, whether you apply on your own or jointly with your partner. This fee goes straight to the court, not to us. If you’re on a low income or receive certain benefits, you may be able to get help with court fees.
For uncontested divorces, we offer fixed-fee divorce packages. You agree the fee before we start, and it covers the application, the acknowledgement of service, the conditional order and the final order. Court fees are paid separately. If anything changes, we’ll explain why and agree it with you before extra work starts.
Costs rise when things are disputed. Arguments over money, a partner who won’t share financial information or a court case all add time and expense. If you need the court to decide the finances, the application fee is £321.
Our divorce costs guide breaks down each part of the bill, and our legal calculators give you a rough idea of the numbers first. These figures are a general guide, not a quote. Your free video consultation is the best way to get a realistic figure.

In your free consultation, we can:
If you have children, they’re likely to be your biggest worry. But the divorce itself doesn’t decide where they live or how often they see each parent. Those decisions sit alongside the divorce, and most parents agree them between themselves.
The divorce application doesn’t ask you to set out arrangements for your children, and the court won’t get involved unless one of you asks it to. That means you can finalise the divorce and the finances while you work out a routine that suits your family.
If you can’t agree, our family law solicitors in Wimbledon can help you through mediation or an application for a child arrangements order. If maintenance is a worry, our child maintenance calculator gives you a quick estimate.
Request Free ConsultationIf your finances include a business, investment portfolio, trusts or several properties, the detail matters. We make sure every asset is identified and valued before any settlement is discussed.
A partner living overseas or property in another country raises questions about where to divorce and how to enforce a settlement. We advise on this early, before proceedings start.
Your partner can’t stop a no-fault divorce, but they can drag their feet. If they ignore the papers, we can ask the court to treat them as served so the case can move on. If they refuse to share financial information, we can apply for an order requiring them to.
You both must give full financial disclosure, normally on a Form E. If your partner is hiding or moving assets, we can ask the court to order disclosure and stop or reverse transactions meant to defeat your claim. Read our guide to hidden assets in divorce.

You, your partner or both of you together apply online, stating that the marriage has broken down irretrievably. Nobody has to prove fault. After a 20-week reflection period, you apply for a conditional order. Six weeks and one day after that, you can apply for the final order, which legally ends the marriage. Our divorce process guide explains each stage in more detail.
The legal minimum is 26 weeks from the date the court issues your application. In practice, most straightforward divorces take around seven to eight months. Sorting out the finances or child arrangements can take longer, especially if you and your partner disagree. It’s usually sensible to have a financial agreement in place before you apply for the final order.
Not usually. The divorce itself is dealt with online or by post, with no hearing. A court hearing only becomes likely if you can’t agree on the finances or arrangements for your children. Even then, many cases settle through negotiation before they reach a final hearing.
Yes. Our free 30-minute consultations take place by video, Monday to Friday. You speak to a senior solicitor from home or work, so there’s no need to travel to our Wimbledon office. To book, call 0203 983 5080, email [email protected] or fill in the form on this page.
We act for clients across Wimbledon and the surrounding areas, including Raynes Park, Morden, Colliers Wood, Southfields, New Malden and Kingston. Because consultations take place by video, we can also help clients elsewhere in London and across England and Wales.
Not always. You can apply yourself through GOV.UK. But if you own property, have children or have built up pensions and savings, a solicitor helps you avoid costly mistakes and turn your financial agreement into a legally binding court order. Without a financial order, your ex could still make a claim against you years after the divorce.
Yes. Your partner can’t block a no-fault divorce. If they ignore the divorce papers, we can ask the court to treat them as served so the case can move on. If they refuse to share financial information or try to move money, we can apply for court orders, including a freezing order, to protect your position.
